how was everyone's sunday? i know it was a few days ago,
but i had the best sunday that i wanted to share it with you!
tuli, the kids, lillian (tul's mum) & i went to an organic farm in
weston creek. they used permaculture methods & it was was a
beauuuutiful food forest. in a little patch the size of our little
bathroom, they had like 20 different things growing. and when
i say different things, i really mean it! there were so much
variety all over the place! even the front yard had heaps of
veggies. this method utilises space so well! i'm so glad i went
with tuli too, she knew all the questions to ask.

the farm was so inspiring. they had so many things growing
together & had so much yield! and whatever excess they had
they gave away to the community & to charities. the most
impressive part was that this 'farm' was in the backyard (&
front yard) of a regular suburban house AND both partners
worked full time! it took them three years to establish their
garden. it was mind blowing. tuli & i left feeling so inspired.
after the farm, we went to a nursery & i picked up some
lettuce seedlings, baby tears, & celosia blooms. next we
went mushroom hunting! we mainly found slippery jacks
& some big white mushys that we've yet to identify..we also
found some ~magic~ mushrooms. or we thought we did.
the only characteristic that stood out to us was the nipple cap.
but later henry confirmed that they were not so magical.
when we got home, the boys were missing. they had fixed up
the bikes & had ridden them all the way to woden! tuli went to
pick them up while i collapsed into the couch. i suspect dehydration.
when she came back, she planted my seedlings while i cut the bottoms
off drink bottles to protect them. i also sprinkled crushed eggshells around
the garden as an extra precaution from yucky snails. you can also line
your veggie patch with copper as the snails won't cross that either.
(learned that from the little farm!)
i'm on a little organic high at the moment. i keep dreaming of
building a food forest community with our friends....
