spas, a baby, and climate change.

a week ago i went to sydney with my class to visit the dermalogica office and take a peek into some
spas. at the dermalogica office, we had a lip treatment at their skin bar, a walk through their training
facilities, and face mapping. the lip treatment was basically the same steps you would do when
washing your face (double cleanse, exfoliate, masque, tone, moisturise). my lips felt full and ready
for a good smooch. their training facilities were top of the line. and i know this because they had a
dyson air blade in their bathroom. we talked about post grad opportunities which was pretty
encouraging. i'm more keen than ever to continue learning...although i say that now... we also had
face mapping done. this is when a trained professional goes over every inch of your face by breaking
it into 14 zones. its actually quite impressive how detailed it is. we also touched a little on the subject
of 'fite' which i haven't fully looked into but its basically about loaning money to women in
developing to help get their business running and then they pay you back. find out more for yourself
by clicking on the link.

anyway, on that trip we also went to a couple spas. we first went to 'endota'. its a day spa and had
dermalogica products, as well as their own organic line. i really loved the atmosphere, very calming
and natural. there was rose hip tea on tap (pretty much) and they even had a wood lamp box with a
mirror..which was freaky and sad to look into. next we went to the langham hotel to visit their day
spa. the hotel itself reminded me of a wes anderson film. everything was so over the top and had a
sort of otherworldly-ness about it. if you didn't click on the day spa link, you should. just to have a
perv at their incredible pool. this spa was ridiculous. there wasn't a single thing on their treatment
menu that wasn't under $150. my only regrets were not jumping in the pool for a quick swim and not
using their bathroom.

something incredible that happened the day i left for sydney was that my new nephew was born!! my
sister, nerida, is a warrior and pushed out plump little xavier. she has maybe the worst birthing story
i've heard in that it sounded incredibly painful. but only a few days after, when i saw her, she seemed
completely fine so maybe pushing out a 9 pounder isn't too bad of an ordeal. their family just moved
into adam & fiona's old house so i'm patiently waiting for them to invite us over so we get more
family times.

and now autumn is in full swing here in canberra. all the leaves are changing, and tho they are
beautiful, they don't quite hang around as long as i want them to. there's also been a bit of change
around here other than the leaves. our dear friends (and neighbours) have moved away. sure they'll be
in canberra almost every weekend (or so they say...!!!!) but i am already feeling the loneliness. its
making me want to move closer to the city and to family. i'm feeling the heavy burden of our bus
dreams and all the calls i'm not getting are squishing these clouds from under me.
