i've got the travel bug really bad at the moment, it always comes and goes. i am just itching to go somewhere new and explore and eat new food and surround myself with a different language. this time, i'm pining for bali. i've been picturing myself as julia roberts, meditating on a pillow in a beautiful little hut somewhere amongst endless rice fields. obviously, a little dreamy but whatever. i am finding it sad that bali is somewhat of a cliche here in australia. being a popular travel destination for most aussies, i feel like their culture (from far away) is lost in a sea of cheap flights and resort deals. an unfortunate thing for many beautiful places.
i am wondering tho, is this really just a bug; an itch. or is it just a longing for 'home'. to be somewhere rich in culture & tradition. Surrounded by sounds strung together, rolling off tongues to form simple sentences that i don't (yet) understand. eating food that exploded with flavour, my taste buds hugging each blend of spice and herb and oil and whatever else was offered. that was my everyday life till i was eighteen. so much time has passed since then and you'd think i was still aching over a bad breakup by the way i daydream about it all. times can be hard for an idealist.
anyway, i have been really inspired by this blog lately. which i guess feeds into my wanderlust. their photos are so beautiful. it makes me want to pick up my camera and start shooting again. except that i can't find it....also i just want to say if you skipped watching video above, you have made a serious mistake. i'd only ever listened to the ratatat remix of this song but the original is also incredible. i saw this video in 3D at ACMI when i was in melbourne a few weeks ago. i was in awe.
