the big draw and packaging peanuts

yesterday was 'the big draw' at the national portrait gallery here in canberra. 

its basically a day where they have different stations for you to create things. 

i had gone to it two years ago when adam created these glue images on glass & 

the only way to see them was to breathe on them so that the steam would reveal 

the image. he called it 'drawing breath' and it was genius.

this year adam proposed the idea of creating sculptures out of packaging peanuts..

and guess what. it was another genius idea! there were so many people letting 

their creativity drive them and it was really fun seeing what everyone made. 

there were crowns, glasses, spiders, and some people were even sticking them 

onto their face to make beards! the packaging peanuts are basically made of 

starch and corn syrup so when they get wet it becomes like a glue. (which may 

or may not explain a lot as i used to eat them all the time in biology class..)

i absolutely loved how simple this idea was and how it sparked creativity & 

community. two things i desire more than most. there were young and old 

sitting together at the tables and they were all admiring and encouraging each 

other's creations. i'm so excited to help out more with this project!! stay tuned
