safe haven

one of my favourite places in sulangan is my tatay pe'ing's fish cage. its like my ultimate safe
haven. sometimes its only a few of us that go out to feed the fish but then other times we bring
the whole family (or at least most of them) out and we have lunch and a swim. its so relaxing.
i think this is what makes my experience so different to many friends i know. the fact that my
family lives so close to ocean and that they seem to really take advantage of it.

my tatay pe'ing grows many different kinds of fish and he also grows lobsters! i was really surprised
by this recent development. his cage seems to be growing every time i visit. i'm really proud of him.
tatay pe'ing actually took me fishing with him a couple times, which is a first for me. usually i just
laze around the fish cage and spear little fish with my cousins, but i'd grown unsatisfied and wanted
more, so my uncle took me out with a couple of my cousins. it was so amazing watching them!!

i got a little sick the first time we went out, the waves were pretty choppy and i was having some
serious cramps. my uncle caught the biggest puffer fish i've ever seen..when blown up, it was three
times the size of my head; its eye the size of my fist. he also caught a lot of 'camil' and some kind of
rainbow parrot looking fish. the second time we went out was much smoother. i even got into the
water and swam around. it was so amazing being able to swim so deep and see so clearly. it was
also incredible to see my uncle dive so deep (like 40ft or something!) and spear these massive fish.

i'm really hoping to invest in some serious waterhousing for my camera for when i return and i really
hope my uncle takes me seriously when i tell him i want to learn how to fish like him hahaha
