I went with my parents to Vegas this week cos that's where my
dad was flying out of. we drove the six hours south, past the
mountains, meadows, & canyons to the desert. vegas has never
really appealed to me before so i was a little indifferent about going.
i was in vegas last year when i returned home from aus & the philippines.
but i didn't want to walk around cos i was so exhausted from traveling.
this time i wanted to do some sight-seeing. which kind of happened.
we wandered down the strip & hung around new york, new york till
my dad left. we also went to 'seafood city' which is a haven for all
things filipino. mom got a lot of fish to take home since we don't
have a good selection here in utah. i was hoping for some fish to
make kinilaw (this amazing fish salad thing) but there wasn't any.
i'm not even sure what kind of fish goes into kinilaw. mom doesn't
share her secrets. actually that's not true, i've never really asked her
but i have a feeling she'd have a hard time trying to explain it to me.
this makes me wonder how i will introduce my children to fish someday..
after dad left, it was just me & mom. which was/is great but so sad at the
same time. we talked a lot & got caught up with each other. i really love
my mom. it breaks my heart to see her so under-appreciated & so lonely.
i really want her to move. i wish she'd go back to the philippines or at least
florida where the sun & ocean will make her happy. she's been so selfless
the past several years. actually all of her life. maybe i will share her story
with you in another post...
